The Frontier #133

The hordes of the Zombie Master have been defeated, although the evil necromancer got away!

A minor debate over the fate of Wendy comes up, but appears to end with her being turned over the authorities in Gateway. Finrod needless binds the Feebleminded wench. She cannot utter an intelligent sentence in her current state, let alone cast spells!

The search of the cave ends in disappointment. As noted before, the caves appeared to at one time held more but much was moved out. No food is found in the caves, nor any sleeping areas or change of clothes. More the likely, the Zombie Master, Wendy and the mystery male mage were waiting for you!

After the search is completed, the body parts and undead are burned. Kit selects two of the smaller piercers. Each is about 1' long, but heavy!

The Seekers then depart the cave system and return to Gateway with Wendy in tow. She is turned over to the authorities and the Seekers settle in to their mansion.

For the former Company of the Sword members, the Seekers inhabit a refurbished mansion. A small servant staff tends to the daily chores. A young couple serve as the live in helpers. Talice and Sorn Calhos tend to the mansion. Talice spends most of her time in the kitchen when the Seekers are home and is know for her good and hearty meals.

There is enough for each Seeker to have his own room. New Seekers are given rooms belonging to former Seekers. The older Seekers goods are packed away awaiting their return.

Several days slide past and Tania and Dani arrive from Karn's Keep. Everyone is healed.

Winter is beginning and Gateway is a winter wonderland. With the cold, most spend their time indoors. (Its late November game time.)

Wendy's Trial begins a few days after your return. Wendy herself is still Feebleminded since it is easier to control her this way.

One at a time, the Seekers are questioned by the ruling body of General Logan, High Priest of Hieronious Durn and High Priestess of Azrella, Selinda. (Please post your statements!)

The marketplace of Gateway are sparse at this time of year. Kit learns of an old alchemist who could be possibly be interested in her pet piercers.

Traveling to the alchemist's shop, Kit finds him to be an ancient elf. His hair grows wildly and is snow white.

"What ye be wantin' with me, lass?"

When shown the piercers, he takes on a more thoughtful look and examines then as closely as Kit will allow.

"I'll give ye 200 gold fer them."

SUBJ: $.02 :) FROM: GM Elezar 03/12/92 S#: 800720

"She did it! She cast this spell that melted my flail, and almost killed my lovely companion Tania. Yup! That's her alright.. " (As for anything else, Dani weren't there. ;D )

Given time fer a shopping spree, Dani'll look to purchase several dozen books regarding Magical Research, Locks, Magic Formulae, and so forth. He'll also see 'bout having one o' the thieves in the party pick him up a set of lockpicks, while he purchases several locks t'practice on.. though mostly as a 'hobby' right now.. Nothing too seriously.

"It's always seemed a bit interesting.. Skulking around in the dark and all that.. Jus' decided t'play around with it.. "

SUBJ: Padraig FROM: GM Shifty 03/13/92 S#: 805914

Before leaving the caverns, Pad will go collect the body of the mage from the Solid Fog. After stripping it of everything, he'll add it to the bonfire. "This guy was a piker. If the Necromancer wants to bring him back, let him sort out the bones and try."

A Det Magic will be run over the mage's gear when possible.

As the party reaches the bottom of the shaft leading up to the Teleporter, Pad looks at the party's new scout hauling along piercer babies. Pad snorts and says, "How do you intend on getting those back to Gateway? There are a few problems to overcome. First you have to climb up the rope with them. After that, you have to power up the grid to take them back. I don't have spells to waste on that. Let the poor things go back to their own kind."

At the trial, Pad has little to say, "This is old business. Its beginnings go back before I joined the group. I thought we should have killed her immediately and not gone through this pointless exercise, myself."

If the party is going to be tied up for a week or so, Pad will try and get a little research done. There's a spell he'd heard about that he'd like to get.

SUBJ: Omni (R) FROM: Omni Tuens 03/13/92 S#: 798593

Omni is happy to leave the cave system, as fighting underground never did much for him. He is still disappointed, however, at the Zombie Master's escape.

With a little scrubbing and polishing, along with a quick pounding or two from nearby forges, and handiwork by a tailor, Omni cleans himself up for his comments at the trial. With the plate mail shining below his family's symbol, the noble fighter states his opinions.

"Wendy assaulted us, along with the Zombie Master. She wanted us dead, or more particularly certain members of the Seekers... As you know, the Zombie Master has combated us in the past. I fear that he will return to do so again, if not stopped. Would it be possible to restore Wendy, and pry any information she has from her? I realize there is a risk involved, but the greater risk is in letting the Zombie Master roam free. We should at least learn what his motives are."

"Also, I fear for the Temple that the Company of the Sword was aiding the first time we encountered the Zombie Master. Would it be possible to check on the safety of the priestess there?"

Omni will also take the opportunity to check in on the mansion, which was given to the Company of the Sword, whose surviving members can now be numbered on one hand.

The warrior also seeks out Claudius, needing to set a time for their departure, wondering if a certain Evil Emperor's presence will affect their plans, and just generally wanting to discuss the game plan.

----------------------------------------OOC: Mad, what to do with the old mansion? And technically, would it be belong to Perrel and Omni (the only two left who started in Gateway) or "all" the company?

SUBJ: FINROD FROM: SGT STONEY 03/13/92 S#: 831460

"No problem, Kit," the elven mercenary stage-whispers to the scout, "I'll provide the extra power for your pets."

He is a little upset with her when she sells them, instead of keeping them around to guard the Mansion, but only expresses this with a frown and a sigh.

At the Trial:

"This vile wench deliberately deceived our party, ostensibly hiring us to help her look for and rescue her long-lost and sterling-hearted Father. When, having served in good faith within the contract, we succeeded in locating the final resting-place of her Mad Progenitor, she set upon us with spells and with one of her evil father's unnatural creations. Several Party members (her employees, remember) were killed facing her treachery."

"When, in the end, we captured the bloodsucking bitch, I insisted that we bring her back to Gateway to stand trial. Despite being bound and charmed, she managed to ferment unrest and strife within our group, once again nearly bringing about the deaths of myself and Validar. Luckily, she was herself an accidental casualty of the resulting melee. Unluckily, we buried her without taking proper precautions against her being raised."

"Once more, only days ago, as the Seekers of the Sword were attempting to bring an old disagreement with the infamous Zombie Master to closure, this wench coldly and from hiding attacked unsuspecting members of our party, doing grievous injury to several, no doubt intending to murder them. When the party confronted our nemesis the Zombie Master in his lair, Wendy chose to throw her lot in with the enemy, despite the fact that Several of our members were still technically in her employ, and still owed back wages for the time and endeavors rendered her."

"I therefore wish to accuse her of the High Crimes of:

1.Entering into a mercenary contract falsely and without intent to fulfil.

2.Breaking Faith with employees and contractees, with intent to do harm.

3.Treasonous consort with known enemies of the state."

"Also, the lesser crimes of: Murder, Attempted Murder, Larceny"

"Your honors, I submit that this woman is of most foul and evil heart, beyond rehabilitation, and should be executed with all due haste, and her soul severed permanently from the remains of her flesh."

Yes, I know, this version is different from what some others will tell, but hey, it's what he believes. :)

'So, like what happened?? Say, Kit-ster what the heck are those things?' ;D

At the trial, I'll add my two cents! ;D

'Yep, yer honors, she blew me up and burned my hair! That's all I know!'

Once back at the mansion, I'll settle back into me room. It may not be as large as the Keep, but it is more homey!

SUBJ: GM Notes: (R) FROM: GM Mad 03/13/92 S#: 8240

Pad casts Detect Magic and finds on Wendy that her Bracers and Ring are magical. The man has a Cloak and a Dagger. That is it.

His body is also added to the bon fire.

(Also, a note of Spell Research. I use the rules suggested in the Wizard's Handbook. So it is easier to research an existing spell, then a totally new one. As a member of the Guild, the spell research Lab and Library problems are removed. Sharadin does charge a fee for using the Research Facilities.)

Dani's book hunt finds rather slim pickings. After all, Gateway is still somewhat of a frontier town. Cynalonian forces only occupied it 2.5 years ago. Sharadin owns the largest collection of books. Any tomes on magic in this area are probably in his library. Books on locks are virtually non-existent. The Crown clamps down on thief's very efficiently. There is no Thief's Guild in Gateway, although rumors say that almost anything shady can be bought from a man named Stock.

Several town lie along the route to Kingsport. Such items can be found much easier their.

Selinda respondes to Omni's question.

"We will restore Wendy in a few days. We wish to hear all the evidence first. A Heal spell is needed to restore her mind."

"I have heard of the Temple of Ehlonna you speak of. After all, I did send one of my more promising Priestess to assist your group."

(She did! That Priestess was Schar!)

"The Temple was reclaimed over the summer. A new contingent of Priests now hold sway there. We have heard of no trouble at the Temple."

The Company was promised one of the mansions when they were recruited for their mission. However, the group never perused this and never even saw the place!

Considering that the Company and the Seeker's charters were combined, the Company's mansion was reclaimed by the Crown since you could now use the Seeker's mansion.

The mansion itself would have required much work to make it habitable anyway. The mansion which would have been given to you is still empty.

Wish to look further into this manner?

SUBJ: Perrel... (R) FROM: GM Kill 03/13/92 S#: 61125

After the battles are over, I kneel down on one knee, and look to the skies, before saying my thanks to Tymora for the luck she has shown on me, and the others in the group.

I help with the corpse round-up and burning, knowing how important it is to Schar that we make sure the bodies are taken proper care of this time, lest they return from the dead yet again.

Once in Gateway, I get myself cleaned up, and then see Omni about getting some money from the party funds to spend.

I also settle into one of the rooms at the mansion, and make sure I get a tour of the place, so I know where everything is.

I hit the town then, and see about buying myself some new sets of clothing, before tossing the old ones in the trash.

I also buy some fragrant perfumes, flowers, a fine bottle of wine, and one special item.

That evening, I leave a trail of flowers on the floor, and have it leading from Schar's room to mine.

In my room, I have candles lit, the wine and two glasses sitting on a small table, a large, neatly wrapped box on the table, and a vase for the flowers when she brings them in.

Myself, I'm bathed, neatly dressed in one of my new outfits, wearing a fine cologne I managed to purchase, and reading a volume of romantic poetry as I wait for her to show.

While in town, I visit the local temple of Tymora, and donate half my share of the party's treasure to it, as well as praying extensively to Tymora, thanking her for all the luck she has brought me so far, and hoping that she will continue to shower her luck upon me.

I'll skip the trial though, as I never even saw Wendy until after she was feebleminded, so I couldn't testify for, or against her.

When I'm not with Schar, or at the temple, I'll either be trying to get some of the Seekers into some game of chance, or I'll be at a local tavern, participating in games of chance.

When I'm playing with the Seekers, I'll play honestly, as I wouldn't cheat my companions, plus I would rather leave things to Tymora's luck. But, when I'm in the tavern, I'll play dishonestly, but only if I notice someone else doing so first, and then only against them.

SUBJ: Mercy FROM: Mastiff1 03/14/92 S#: 845287

Mercy watches the burning of the bodies with a little fascination. He is already to go when the smell hit him.

After arriving back at the mansion, Mercy is glad to see Bright Eyes his owl. "I almost didn't make it back this time." he says to her while scratching her head. Mercy removes his banded mail and clothes and takes a bath. Now smelling at least acceptable and clean, he sees to the cleaning of his armor. "Gods, this thing is dirty."

Mercy skips the trial, as he has no info to give about her. So instead he goes to the temple of Mortidus to pray and ask about the return of the Emperor. Given what knowledge that they can give him, he peruses more at Sharadins library. Finding all he can he will has for permission (if necessary) to go back to the captured mansion and check it's large library as well as check on the progress of the new joint temple.

SUBJ: FINROD to OMNI FROM: SGT STONEY 03/14/92 S#: 801667

"I daresay you would find the mansion promised to the Company to be a most bleak, decayed, and un-homey abode. This one here was almost unhabitable some 18 months or more ago, and it was one of the better ones available, even then. We have spent much time and money, and our hired help has put even more time into making it as cozy and pleasant a barracks as ever a band could want. Please... choose a room for yourself, and we will decorate it to suit you, out of party funds. The same goes for all the members of The Company, as proof that we are fully behind the merger. Remember, we all follow yourself, now, as well as Claudius."

The mercenary shows quite a bit of pride in the rambling old structure, as he conducts Omni on a tour of the place. He seems to take a most paternalistic attitude towards the Mansion and the Hirelings... something that at first must seem to clash with his gruff mercenary exterior, but will have to be added to the over impression of just what this Elf is all about.

I say a prayer as the bodies are collected. Perhaps now they will find eternal peace.

I am extremely happy to be back in Gateway. My first duty is to report in at the Azrella's Temple and tell Selinda of my travels.

When arriving at the Seeker's mansion, I plop what little gear I have down on the bed. The room seems to have belonged to another woman. I ask the Talice and she says that it belonged to someone named "Dalliance". The name means nothing to me.

I also hit Omni up for money. Like Perrel, I too have not been in Gateway since setting out into the Frontier. New clothes are purchased as well as a few items to decorate my new quarters! I also buy the material to create my own clothes in my spare time.

I greet Dani, Tania and Kitten upon their return.

"Glad to see that you are alright, Tania. It was a pretty scary moment."

I also have nothing constructive to add to the trial since, like Perrel, I encountered Wendy after the fact.

Upon returning to the mansion one night from the Temple, I found flowers outside my door. Puzzled, I bend down to pick it up only discover another. And another.

Following the trial I arrive at a nearby door. I'm not too surprised to find out who's it is?

Opening the door, I see the set up inside.

"An invitation I trust? Did you know that this room once belonged to a man called Tigercat??"

Once back home, I get out of my dirty work clothes and take a nice, hot bath! :D

After that, I change into something more respectable and ladylike. I raid the kitchen for some dinner and return to our room bearing a bottle of wine and some fruit.

When Fin returns we cuddle, share the wine as he recites Elven Poetry. ;D

I don't recognize Tania at first, considering she had hair before! ;D

I'm nervous at the trail before I have to speak, since I've to alot to tell!

"Ok, let me see. It all started out here in Gateway. We had just arrived, formed the Seekers and were looking for a mission in the frontier. I believe that Validar was the one Wendy first contacted. She presented herself as desperately searching for her father who was lost in the wilds near a place called Whispering Hollow. She had no money for which to pay us, but Cereld, our leader, agreed to help us. So, we were off into the wilds!"

"Our group was much different then. Let me see, there was myself, Finrod, Dalliance, Arafel, Validar, Cereld, Flint, Raeden the twit, Tigercat, Dar, Radagast and Dwaladin."

"On the way to we were attacked by these giant bugs and they ate Radagast! It was gruesome! Oh, and we met Araduin along the way."

"We finally arrived at Whsipering Hollow. Some of us went into to check the place out. There was a Temple to Hextor there."

"Wendy disappeared while we sacked the temple."

"We learned that the village was being menaced by something they called the Mountain Monster. We found the tower the Wendy's Father lived in. It was in ruins."

"Tracks were nearby and we followed them to a mine entrance. Inside the mine we found this Mountain Monster. A strange patchwork creature made of many different creatures! We managed to slay it."

"As we left, Wendy attacked us! She was raving, but I think she was mad that we killed the creature. As if it was her father's legacy or some other nonsense."

"She attacked with magic and killed Arafel and Dalliance right out. Several other Seekers were almost killed before we captured her."

"Finrod argued that she should be returned for judgement. Validar argued the she should be killed. It seems that he was fond of the girls Wendy killed. Arafel in particular."

"They argued and weapons were drawn. Wendy accidentally was killed during the fight. We buried her and forgot about it."

"Then she reappeared in the caves under the ruined city. She again tried to slay Seekers with magic. Finrod in particular. That's about all there is tell."

That done, I go home. ;D

The spell Pad is interested in is something that someone researched in a game up here. It's called Warp Missile. It's exactly like Magic Missile, except that you fire it at a Scry point and it fries the person doing the scrying. The GM up here made it a 3rd list spell when it was researched.

Though Fiben thinks taking the Piercers along is not only a bad idea, but a waste of time, He helps Kit with them in an effort to fit in and make friends with the new scout. He sees no problem with taking them up the rope. Fiben and Kit simply go up last, tying the piercers to the end of the rope before doing so, then pulling them up. Of course, in return, Kit better help pick up Fiben's scattered belongings near the teleporter and pack them neatly in his backpacks. ;D

Fiben is at first surprised that Pad wouldn't help a fellow Seeker take back a war trophy, especially since an extra spell from his huge arsenal shouldn't matter much with their destination being Gateways. But then after a moment of reflection, he decides he isn't surprised after all, and whispers to Kit that he also can donate his last 1st level spell.

Back at Gateway, Fiben is relieved to be back, knowing that though he was almost fried, he has learned much from his own experience and from watching the others. (::Happy mode about the levels!::) :D Fiben retires to his room, drops his packs and belongings into the chest on top of his Leathers and extra oil and goes to sleep for the night, hoping to not be bothered till he has had a much needed snooze.

The next day, he goes to Claudius and asks about his share of the loot from the dragons lair, which last he knew Finrod was carrying. He has some shopping to do, mainly for a bed, (that floor was hard last night) and other things to spruce up his room.

He doesn't bother to go to the trial, as it concerns things that happened before he joined up. If summoned to testify though, he will repeat the story of her attempt to fry everyone with the fireball.

Fiben Wizard Locks his Large Chest, washes, changes back into his good clothes and hits the town to look around, shop, relax, listen to rumors, ect. He'll also hit the bars with Perrel, if allowed, not to play but to watch. If he notices anyone drunk and cheating against Perrel, and it doesn't appear Perrel has noticed, then Fiben will make sure the cheater's pocket gets picked just before they leave. (Only to a drunk, to improve my odds of not being caught. And to teach them not to imbibe so much.) ;D

Then with a playful pulled punch to her arm, he says, "Don't worry kid, it'll grow back, pretty as before." Then rubs her bristly head real quick and scampers off.:D

Fiben also greets Dani happily. When Dani asks about the Lock Picks, Fiben gets a twinkle in his eye. "So ya want to roam the edge of the shadows eh? SUBJ: FINROD FROM: SGT STONEY 03/15/92 S#: 838658

Slipping back into the familiar Gateway surroundings, Finrod heads for the marketplace and purchases his lovely wife a new dress--something cut to show off her pleasingly shaped and well-muscled frame, done in green and yellow, to go with the steadily-improving weather.

After spending the first evening in their rooms, the couple goes out almost every evening thereafter, gambling, drinking, carousing, and dining. In this environment, where he is daily reminded of how wonderful it is to be married to Steph, who shares all his tastes from the most cultured to the least mannered tavern, Kit has naught to fear in the form of flirtatiousness from Fin. At most, he halfheartedly and almost as a duty makes the odd comment to other women. Stephanie is the peach of his eye (he's far fonder of them than apples). :)

Within the walls of Gateway the Mercenary multiclass doffs his studded leather in favor of silk and linen garb of black and gray. Lest anyone fret, he DOES use the ARMOR spell when in town.

Spells:

Charm Person, Color Spray, Armor, Magic Missile

Improved Phantasmal Force, Mirror Image, Knock

Haste, Hold Person

Stoneskin

**On the first two days he will renew the Stoneskin spells on himself and Stephanie**

On the third and succeeding days, the Stoneskin will be replaced with Improved Invisibility.

SUBJ: Omni (R) FROM: Omni Tuens 03/17/92 S#: 114394

"Thank you for your time." Omni bows to Selinda as she responds to his question regarding the temple. "Regarding Wendy, my concern is that justice be served, and the threat which she and her accomplices posed be ended permanently."

Omni decides to let the matter of the second mansion drop, so long as there is plenty of room in the current mansion for both living and training. He doesn't want to be greedy, but he doesn't want the group to be impaired, either!

Dishing out money left and right to party members, the fighter can't help but chuckle to himself. "Honestly... you would think we're a group of beggars! Be sure and bring me something from the marketplace, now."

The warrior instead ops to spend his extra time drilling with his sword.

"Well, if it wasn't an invitation, the staff are certainly lousy housekeepers." I say with a smile, as I put the book down, and glide across the room to sweep her into my arms.

"And no, I didn't know whose room this was, now ask me if I care for anything at this moment but you?" I say, while kicking the door shut behind her.

I give her a passionate kiss, and then take the flowers from her, and stick them in the vase, before scooping the box off the table.

"A gift..." I say with a wide smile, while handing her the box of perfumes. "...for you, my love."

"Oh yes, I also have one more gift. A very special one." I say, with a wide grin. "But, you're going to have to find it, for I've hidden it..."

I then give her a wink, and turn about in front of her.

"...upon my person." ;x

SUBJ: To Clarify... FROM: QDJ Tim 03/17/92 S#: 115558

OOC: I had posted that Fiben went to Claudius to ask about his share of the treasure. I just want to clarify that what I REALLY want is not for Claudius to respond, but for Mad to give us an update on what monetary treasure I/we have gained since we left Gateway headed for our tropical "vacation" ;D
