Fiben and the Law:
The judge, a low level priest of Heironeous I should add, responds once more:
(Heironeous is the Patron of Chivalry, Honor, Justice and Valor BTW)
"Of course you may plead your case. Contrary to what you may believe this is a fair court. It was found that the brawl in the bar was precipitated by magic. That being the case, the charges for brawling were dropped with only a small fine to aid the tavern owner in repairing damage done to his place of business."
"However, instead of presenting your case, you choose to insult the integrity of the Kings Law, call us thieves and make a nuisance of yourself. I was left no choice but to find you in contempt of court. You have shown a total disregard for the law and have been punished."
"This court is adjourned."
Fiben is taken away to spend the night in the stockade. The cell he is placed in is clean. The night passes without incident.
(Those who look into Cynalonian Law will discover that crimes and punishment are broken down into groups and matched with recommended punishment. Bar Brawling could have landed those involved either a fine of up to 50 gold or up to six weeks in the stockade!! Possibly both! Those are the maximums, BTW, with actual penalties usually being lower. Repeat offenders are generally given higher punishments.)
Later on, Omni returns before the Seekers with Lara, a Priestess of Azrella.
"No thanks are necessary", Lara says to Omni. "It was an interesting adventure. May you and your friends have a pleasant journey."
Wendy is executed and life almost returns to normal. Four days later, Pad returns from Karn's Keep.
Captain Shea contacts the Seekers once more.
"We've learned of the lose of your mansion. You may take the former Companies Mansion if you so desire. Also, when shall you be leaving for Kings Port? I'll need to have your mounts ready for the trip."

Fib, the scroll case is simply not dense enough to fully contain the Continual Light spell. See Pad's response in the last post for more details. It filters some of it out, but light still escapes from the closed case.
You should also consider that such magical lights are not readily available on the open market. That would suggest that the creation of one is not all that simple! :)
A common practice it to place Continual Light inside a Bullseye Lantern. The lantern's metal construction resists the light seepage. It is not a perfect solution, but a common one.
Construction of a true flashlight device is been a favorite topic of engineers and wizards with time and money to invest into the project.
Denser metals, such as lead, are known to fully contain the Continual Light.
Zynara, Blod and Bernice all annouce that they will not join the Seekers on their misson to find the Sword of Doom. They can hold on the funds you leave behind and precede with whatever plans you come up with for a new home. :)
Perhaps now would be a good time to give out the recently captured magic items? ;)
To refresh your memory, here is what lies ahead. You are traveling to Kings Port to continue the quest. There, you'll be provided with transportation to reach the Graveyard of Ships, where the Sword of Doom is hidden.
After 109 days of sailing, and assuming there are no serious delays, you'll reach an outpost called Far Point. The Graveyard is said to be three weeks distant for there.
That 109 day journey assumes that you follow the known sea routes. It would be possible to cut corners, but that would place you in unknown seas and possibly facing unknown dangers.
Sharadin suggested that you seek out a Priest of Alesh, Patron of the Oceans, by the name of Melanthius. He may be able to aid you in this quest.
The ride to Kings Port normally takes 2 weeks. There are towns, villages and way stations spaced out an average days journey apart. You won't need to carry much in the way of supplies thanks to the stations.
The further south you go, the warmer it will get. :)
Now what?

OOC: Saphfire, No offense taken. :D Glad I gave ya something to write about, and in returned, you have given me a chance to reveal a little more of Fiben's personality. ;D
As the judge gives his final remarks, Fiben begins to bore. Maybe his time spent in the company of HIS heroes, the Seekers, truly has inflated his ego to the point where he expected special treatment. But from the looks of his companions, Fiben begins to realize that he possibly really is getting off easy. Fair or not, he has the feeling the judge could do a lot more to him and get away with it. And also by looks on the faces of his companions, he doubts they would EVER come to his aid. So, silently, Fiben allows the guards to temporarily remove his possessions and lead him to a cell...
When the next day comes and Fiben is released, he politely gathers his things and heads for the Inn. His walk back is a brisk, almost frisky one. He can't wait to tell Kit what happened to him, expecting to giggle the night away over it...
But then, he is surprised to wave hello to Stephanie only to have her unleash her fury on him. When she says he has insulted the king, Fiben wants to object. He had MEANT it when he said 'Long Live the King'. It was the judge he was trying to insult. But he never gets the chance to say so, for her next words send his mind reeling... "You have blackened the name of the Seekers..." she says. After that, Fiben hears nothing else she says, nor does he even notice her storm away in her fury, as he is left staring blindly at the wall...
SUBJ: Fiben II (R) FROM: FatalCharm 04/19/92 S#: 829086
The memories begin to flood Fiben's mind. The memories of his first day in Gateway. The day that he, just a 'boy' as Elves go, had traveled to find the mansion of the Seekers. It was every brave boys dream. But what had he told them? That his top Priority was to better the land he lived in? To save it from the distruction of evil? ::frown::
He remembers walking those big city streets for the first time. Him, Fiben, a boy raised hiding in the wilderness. A boy who knew only the law of his mother and father. The first thing that had impressed him was the buildings. Then all the people: Humans, Elves, and various races. But as he explored and bartered in the market place, what he found most strange was all the customs, the laws and rules, the routines, the simply complicated and complicatedly simple way of the city. It figured. Humans were mostly in charge after all. He never did understand the human's laws or the way of the cities, of government.
Then the memories flash through his mind of how he had almost turned away from the door of the Seeker's mansion, expecting them to laugh at his presence, at his childish dreams. The courage to knock upon that door had been harder to find than the courage to face the Lizard men, or the ZM's creations, or even the dragon. He remembers how they DID laugh, but with him, not at him. How they had taken him in, made him one of them. And now, this 'boy', with his dreams of glory, of honor, of experiencing life, had begun to make something of himself.
He was a talented scout now, almost a living shadow. In fact, Senior Scout for the Seekers it would seem, since Mastiff had left. And his Archery skills were improving. As well as other fighting skills. And magic! Oh he had seen magic galore, and learned many things himself! Then he realizes, in spite of all he has seen and learned, he is still that dreamy, naive, little boy-elf. He really had expected to impress that judge and bend him under his will. A priest of justice he had found out later. Figures again.
"You have blackened the name of the Seekers." The words echo through his mind again. and again. and again. As if held there by magic. A magic he could not dispel. But what had he really done so wrong??? He knew the answer to that. Pride. He had let himself be tripped up by pride, and a self-centered sense of over-confidence. He had made the accomplishments of the Seekers his own accomplishments. Up to this point, he hadn't been an adventure, he had been PLAYING Adventurer. And it almost got him killed a few times. Fiben determined at that point that someday, he WILL make the Seekers proud of him. But he will not let pride control him.
SUBJ: Fiben III FROM: FatalCharm 04/19/92 S#: 829880
Fiben had been trained to move swift as a cat, and silent and unseen as a shadow in the shade. He had been trained to handle a sword, and his bow. He had even learned to control the very forces of magic. Why oh why hadn't his father trained him on how to deal with people, with other intelligent beings, with minds and motives of their own? Maybe only life could teach such a thing. And life is a hard teacher.
Undoubtedly, the story of Fiben's courtroom antics will get back to his leaders, Omni and Claudius. For both he has respect, and their respect he treasured more than jewels. Fiben will spend the next day or two avoiding Claudius and Omni with a rather downcast attitude. But when forced to be around them, he will hold his head high. Respect is not gained by cowering like a beaten puppy, after all. And around them he will be quick and courteous and agreeable, doing his best to do as he is told then be out of the way. His evenings he will try to spend with Kit, taking walks with her and talking about life, scouting, their attempts at creating magic items, and anything that might help him forget the anxiety within him. Basically, he is stir-crazy again and needs to hold on till the Seekers can hit the high road, or sea as the case may be, to glory.

"I would like to make claim to the bracers, give the ring to Pad, the cloak to Kit, and go from there."
"Currently, Pad and I have no real protection in a fight except staying out of the way. Someday this could cost us. This may seem overly biased towards mages, but remember you have armor, Pad and I don't. Pad has more combat experience than I, therefore I feel I need more protection."
"The cloak to Kit because she asked. The dagger remains up for grabs. This is only a suggestion since I'm obviously involved. What say you?"
The Seekers begin their final preparations for leaving Gateway...
Kit finds that Gateway does not have a glassworks factory. It is a frontier town only claimed three short years ago. Such a large business has yet to reach it.
There is such a factory down in Kingsport, which happens to be the second largest city in the Kingdom, next to the capitol, Alexandria.
Blod oversees the remodeling of the Companies Manor. Fortunately, one wing is in fairly decent shape and the roof is good. Work on the inside begins immediately in that wing. The whole project is projected to be finished late next spring.
The Priest Melthanius lives down in Kingsport. So, that saves Schar some searching right now. :)
Claudius puts forth his suggestions on division of the latest batch of magic items. Kit gets the cloak, Pad the ring and Claudius the bracers. The dagger is currently unclaimed.
He's taking comment and opinions from the other Seekers in this matter.

My apologies for the quick turnaround, but I want to get back to regular Thursdays posts. :)
Use this post to finish up your business in Gateway. We're off to Kingsport starting next post!
You have some decisions to make this week.
Money: How much are each of you going to invest to remodel the manor? The money I listed a few posts back was only the actually coins you had access to. There are several gems and miscellaneous pieces of jewelry in the groups' possession. If you wish to, all the gems and jewels could be cashed in and that would just about cover the remodeling costs. :)
How much money are you going to actually take with you? Are you going to convert any of it into gems and jewels for easy carrying? Or just leave some of it behind?
Is the group going to actively look for new recruits in the towns and villages along the way? I have it as being 12 active members of the Seekers of Sword. New players anyone?
I will need traveling spell lists!
Supplies such as food and water, and mounts are being provided. No problem there.
That should cover everything.
All yours! :)

Once Dani finds out that the company will be leaving quite soon, he'll see about getting Tania or someone else to help him travel through the pillars to the Jungle where he picked up Kitten. Once there, he'll set out once again to try capturing one of those birds with bright feathers..
Upon his return (successful or not) he'll see about getting a backpack created for Kitten and pack the Jaguar's midnight blue traveling cape and foppish hat in the pack along with his various cooking spices and a few other minor essentials. If he manages t'friendship the bird, he'll also commission a perch that can be strapped onto a saddle, and one that can be strapped onto Kitten's harnesses..
He'll spend half a day sparring with Stephanie, and after getting trounced a number of times.. He'll start throwing spells at her t'even the score.. Though nothing dangerous.. Jus' a hold spell, maybe a Dust Devil or Heat-Metal spell and so forth. :) Sure this type of sparring isn't going to help her swordsmanship much, but it'll give her a chance to become familiar with magical attacks and how to react to them.. So that they're not surprising if an opponent pulls one on her. (Plus he KNOWS he couldn't do much in a 'fair' fight. :D )
He'll gladly donate 75% of his available funds (after the above purchases) to the refurbishing of the mansion. The remaining, he'll change to platinum and gems to carry with him.. It'll be quite some time before he's going to be back here, so he sees no reason to leave funds behind.. :)

SUBJ: Fiben. -=The Hunt=- (R) FROM: FatalCharm 04/25/92 S#: 809846
When Fiben hears of Dani's plan, he rushes to find him, barely able to contain his excitement! "Dani, please, I've got to go with you! I too have something important to find there. And I won't get in your way! Remember, I am but a silent shadow. And I can help power the pillars too." Fiben is so excited it is about all he can do to not wet himself. heh heh (just kidding) He is happy to have Tania along to, but doesn't wish to have any others tromping through the forest and scaring the creatures away. UNTIL he hears of Kit's desire, of course. Yes, that would be very good, for she to knows how to keep silent and hidden like he does. (Though not as well I bet.) ;> And she is brave in battle too. After all, the land IS crawling with Lizard men and worse. (Which Fiben will inform Kit of.)
So, off go the Fearsome Foresome! Or is that the Fearless Foresome? Foolish Foresome. Oh forget it. :D
(Can someone explain again how you determine the spell levels needed to power the pillars?)
For Spells for the hunt, Fiben will pack: 2nd Level: Web, Strength. 1st Level: Feather Fall, ColorSpray x2
The most important two spells he does NOT want to use to power the pillars on the way through is the Web and the Feather Fall.
His game plan will be simply to hide in the woods silent and still, waiting for monkeys to come along. He'll use both his knowledge on monkeys and Herbalism skills to set bait the monkeys will be attracted to. He suggest that him and Kit stay far away enough from Dani and Tania as to not get into each others way, but close enough to hear each other with a signal whistle if they run into trouble. (get yourself some whistles) If Fiben sees more than one species of monkey, his preference is for a large Black Screamer. And to catch a male and female pair would be great. But he'll be happy to catch ANYTHING.
And this is how he plans to catch it He hopes to hit one during a midair jump with a Feather Fall spell and let it float down. Just as it touches down, he'll cast a Web spell to trap it until he can restrain it with rope. As a last resort, if the above proves impossible, he'll Web a creature in a tree, climb up and restrain it with rope, then cast Feather Fall on it to help get it down.
In either case, the two spells should be sufficient. He will tie the monkeys arms, but so as to not harm it, then he'll tie a rope around its chest, under its arms, to lead it with. The monkey will have to be restrained until it can be tamed. He'll take his extra black cloak and if neccessary to calm the monkey can put the cloak over its head.
SUBJ: Fiben Details, details FROM: FatalCharm 04/25/92 S#: 791097
I don't know if Fiben will be successful, but since we are leaving next post...
If Fiben does catch himself a monkey, with his leaders permission, he would like to bring the monkey along on the trip. In fact he will insist on it. He realizes it will cause some inconveniences at first, but when we become shipboard, we will have hours and hours and days and weeks to kill, and it would be most efficient for Fiben to use that time for taming and training of his pet, rather than board it at gateway.
When Fiben joined the Seekers, the Seekers already had a fund which Fiben received money from, do they still have that fund and how much is in IT? Or was it devided up when you showed us our personal funds?
Fiben naturally thinks we should cash in our jewelry and gems for restoration of the mansion. If this is not done, and private donations are needed, Fiben is willing to give all but 1,000 Gps of his money. (So he is willing to spend up to around 1300 gp if necessary).
Of his remaining 1,000 Gp, he would like to convert half to Platinum. (1pp=5gp like in the book, right?) He will take on the trip with him 50 pp, 48 gp, and 20 sp.
The rest he will leave in his Wizard Locked Large Chest, and the chest will be under the care of the staff. Any other supplies to be left in the chest I'll post later.
When the company pulls out of gateway, Fiben's spell list will be:
1st level: Burning Hands, ColorSpray, Magis Missle
2nd level: Mirror Image, Strength
And a huge thanks and an affectionate but friendly peck on the cheek to Tani for her spell. Fiben hates the cold. (Though I haven't heard of the spell either.) "Tania, you are to sweet to me, me a rogue. If there is anything I can do for you, let me know!"
SUBJ: GM Notes: FROM: GM Mad 04/25/92 S#: 433855
The pillars operate as follows. It takes 1 spell level to have it teleport 1 person. A 3rd level spell will transport 3 people. Simply cast the spell on the pillar representing your destination. Spells with Area Effects will not work for this.
So, if four of you go, you'll need 4 spells to go, and 4 to get back.

Omni will donate the vast majority of his funds towards restoring the mansion. The rest will go towards making sure his equipment and weapons are in top condition for the trip... finely adorned, in fact.
On most matters, Omni is keeping silent. He's been distracted the last several days, and spends much time in thought. He'll give any input needed, but realizes Claudius is better at this sort of administration... the details. His strong point is off in combat.

Fiben's main concern is getting the monkey back with out harming it or causing it more distress than necessary. He wishes he had a sleep spell. Even restrained, it will probably take both he and Kit to keep it under control.
From now till we leave Gateway, Fiben will spend almost ALL his time with the as yet unnamed monkey. His goals now are simply to calm the monkey and teach it to trust him before they hit the road. It will be important that he be able to keep the monkey from going wild and impeding travel.
First he will leave the monkey loosely restrained and will spend hours grooming the monkeys fur with his own fingers, picking out all the bugs, ect. Done right, and carefully, this grooming should do much to elevate the monkeys' fears. He will also spends hours trying to get the monkey to accept food from his hand. For if the monkey trust him enough to take food from him, and is dependant on him for food, it will also greatly help him keep the monkey under control. A fast trip to the market for suitable rations are in order too.
Fiben will also ask Tania and Dani if they have any spells that would help calm the monkey, and not knowing anything about priestly spells, he will offer Dani 500gp if he knows some way to cast the Animal Friendship spell on the monkey in such a way as to make it bond with Fiben rather than the caster. (heh heh)

"Good idea, Perrel! A nice touch to have both of our faiths represented."
I'll spend our last few days in Gateway preparing for my big event.

"Congratulations!", I say to Schar and Perrel. "If you need any help with the arrangements, let me know." :D
I'll leave the finnical arrangements to Finrod. :D
I decide to leave (her horse) behind so that he can be better cared for here instead of Kingsport.
